Questionnaire privacy notice
This Privacy Notice is for students completing the Future Skills Questionnaire.
Who are we?
We are The Careers & Enterprise Company, we provide digital tools, resources, training, and support to your school to help teachers to enhance the careers education you receive in school.
What is a Privacy Notice?
A privacy notice is a statement that describes how we collect, use, keep and share the information we hold about you. The privacy notice is part of our commitment to making sure that we process your personal data lawfully.
What is personal data?
Personal data is any information that can be used to identify you. This could be your name or email address for example.
What type of personal data do we process?
We currently process the following information to provide your Future Skills Questionnaire to you:
- Your first and last name
How do we get the personal information and why do we have it?
Any personal data you see on the Future Skills Questionnaire is supplied by your school to our digital tool, Compass+. The school supplies this information from the school’s Management Information System (MIS) which they maintain and manage.
When your school generates a questionnaire for you, you will see your first name and last name are displayed on the first page of the questionnaire.
How do we use the personal information that the school has given us?
We display your personal information on the first page of the questionnaire to help you identify that you are completing the right questionnaire. By ensuring you complete the right questionnaire, this means that your responses are saved back against your name on Compass+. Your school can then tailor your careers education to your needs as identified by the questionnaire.
What do we do with your questionnaire responses?
Your questionnaire responses are accessible to your teachers who will use your questionnaire responses along with any other careers education information to see if there are specific areas of careers education that students need more information and/or support with.
The Careers & Enterprise Company access your questionnaire responses for research and reporting purposes, this will help CEC and local partners improve careers provision for young people across the country. CEC Researchers will access your data in pseudonymised form. This means that the researchers will not see your name and will not be able to identify you. We will combine your responses with other students so it will not be possible to identify any individuals in our outputs. Your questionnaire responses will be held safely on secure servers that meet with data protection rules.
You can speak to your teacher if you have any questions about how your data is used.
Do we share this information with anyone?
We make use of expert third party service providers to help us to provide and maintain our digital tools to your school. We have contractual agreements in place with third party service providers and we ensure that they are compliant with data protection laws.
What is the lawful basis we rely on for processing your data?
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) the lawful basis we rely on for processing this information is: We need it to perform a public task.
Can you access or change your data?
Your personal data is supplied by the school to Compass+ in line with your schools’ privacy policy which you can find on your school website. Your data is kept up to date by your school. If you need to access this data, then please speak to the teacher overseeing your completion of the Future Skills Questionnaire.
Your questionnaire responses are saved back to Compass+. You can request this information from your teacher. Your teacher will then be able to download your information into a PDF report and share with you. If you want to change or edit your response to the questionnaire, then your teacher will need to delete your previous answers and ask you to complete the questionnaire again.
How long do we keep your data for?
Compass+ keeps your personal data during your time at the school and for three years after you have left the school. This will help your school better understand how their careers provision can best support students, and what difference this makes to young peoples’ choices and next steps when they leave the school. After three years, we will then dispose of your personal information by deleting it from Compass+.
How do we store your data?
Your data is securely stored on third party servers (provided by AWS) that are hosted and maintained within the European Union.
What are your rights?
You have the right to:
- Be told how we use your information.
- Ask your school to see the information we hold about you.
- Ask your school to change your information you think is wrong.
- Ask your school to remove information we hold about you.
- Ask your school to only use your information in certain ways.
- Tell your school you don’t want your information to be processed.

Changes to this privacy notice
We keep this privacy notice under regular review to reflect the changes in law and/or our privacy practices. In the occasion of significant changes in the way your personal data is processed, we will update this privacy notice.
